Product Introduction
Core-spun yarn exists to solve a problem elastane cannot solve alone: bare elastane cannot be woven or knitted cleanly, and it yellows and degrades under chlorine and heat. Wrapping a 50D elastic core in viscose fibre puts the stretch inside the yarn, where the surface remains a normal cellulosic yarn that dyes, weaves and handles as the fibre in the wrap.
This version is twisted at 580 TPM — deliberately low — so that the wrap stays open and soft. Higher twist compresses the wrap and makes the fabric feel wiry, which defeats the comfort stretch the construction is there to provide.
Key Advantages
433 cN strength from the filament core. Strength in a core-spun yarn comes almost entirely from the filament, which means this yarn is substantially stronger than any 100% viscose equivalent at Ne 30s — here 433 cN against roughly half that for a spun-only yarn. Loom efficiency follows that difference.
Stretch without bare elastane exposure. Because elastane is fully covered by staple fibre it cannot be abraded directly, is not visible at the yarn surface, and can be dyed using standard cellulosic recipes. This makes it usable in constructions where bare elastane would create coverage problems.
Low twist keeps the viscose handle. At 580 TPM the viscose wrap retains softness and drape, which is why this yarn is specified for apparel rather than technical applications. Higher-twist versions trade that handle for crisper structure and can be produced to order.
Evenness CV 11.8% despite the composite structure. Core-spun yarns typically show irregularity because the wrap must cover a core with different mechanical properties. Holding evenness under 12% keeps the fabric surface clean enough for piece dyeing in medium shades.
Recommended Applications
Comfort-stretch apparel — Light-stretch shirting, dresses with movement, shaped casual trousers, base layer tops and stretch knit tops.
Home & next-to-skin — Stretch bedding fabrics, loungewear and underwear constructions needing recovery without high elastane content.
