Product Introduction
Putting a slub yarn in both directions is unusual and deliberate. Most slub fabrics use the effect yarn in one direction only, producing streaks that run either warp-way or weft-way. Here the slub is combined with viscose in both warp and weft, so the irregularity crosses itself and reads as texture rather than direction, closer to a hand-loom cloth than a machine-made one.
The viscose component softens what would otherwise be a coarse, hard-handed cotton slub cloth, giving enough drape for garment use while keeping the visual irregularity intact.
Key Advantages
Cross-directional slub for hand-loom character. Because the slub appears in both warp and weft, thick and thin sections interlock at right angles and give a genuinely textured surface. Once dyed and washed, this reads as a considered design decision rather than as inconsistent yarn.
Viscose softens the cotton slub hand. A pure cotton slub fabric at Ne 32s can feel boardy. Pairing it with Ne 40s viscose in the same yarn lowers bending stiffness so the fabric drapes, which widens the range of garments it can be used for beyond structured pieces.
Stable 68×66 construction with slub content. Slub yarn complicates weaving because the thick sections interfere at the reed. Near-balanced densities keep the weave regular, so weft insertion runs without repeated stoppages.
Wide finishing latitude. The cloth responds well to rope dyeing, enzyme washing, softening and pre-shrinking, each of which produces a different look from the same greige base, allowing one fabric specification to serve several styles.
Recommended Applications
Casual & vintage-style apparel — Retro Japanese-style shirting, relaxed dresses, workwear-inspired trousers, utility overshirts and textured layering pieces.
Home & decorative textiles — Textured curtains, upholstery face cloth, cushions and lifestyle accessories where a hand-made look is wanted at scale.
